Salmon Gypsy B&B Gypsy Caravan
Location: 23 Miles South of Salmon, Idaho; 2.1 Miles away from the famous Goldbug Hot Springs.
Best For: Best for couples or friends. There are three gypsy caravan spots that can host up to two people each (one queen size bed)
Amenities: Private gypsy wagon, not shared with others, with one Queen bed. Ensuite, Wifi, Hot Water and AC/Heating, Continental Breakfast served daily. Free Parking, Equipped kitchenette (with stove, microwave, toaster oven, Keurig compatible coffee maker, small refrigerator/freezer), waterfront with boat ramp (use is free of charge for guests who own small craft).
Overview
The Gypsy Caravan is a unique property. It is located 2.1 miles from Idaho’s famous Goldbug Hot Springs Trail and 23 miles outside of Salmon. The owners (and also Airbnb Superhosts) Pat and Lorett, with the help of a local company that specializes in tiny homes, thoughtfully designed and decorated three beautiful wagons. For less than two years they have been renting them for guests who, like me, want to be immersed in nature in a private waterfront location, by Salmon River.
Each gypsy wagon is designed in a different color, but with the same Gypsy flair in mind. They are at a good distance from each other, giving you the privacy you might be looking for. Each one has its own outdoor table, chairs, and a stunning view of the river. In the morning, Lorett brings you a delicious breakfast. You can sit outside and enjoy the sunrise eating homemade pastries. Make sure to ask for the raspberry muffin loaf!
Our Experience
After being home for a couple of months (#quarantinelife)I decided to go on a road trip and chose Idaho as my destination. I had heard great things about the State and by looking at pictures I could see how stunning it was. My favorite part of the trip was driving through Idaho’s scenic State Highway 75 North. On the trip we stopped by Sun Valley, Stanley and Salmon. You can read more about it here. I am a hotelier, and so I am always looking for unique places to stay. In Salmon (actually, 23 miles south of Salmon) I found the most charming little Airbnb – the Gypsy Wagon, to get a taste of Glamping in Idaho.
The selling point for me was the uniqueness of the glamping type, the positive reviews, and the location. The Gypsy Caravan was perfectly located by the Salmon River, and 2 miles away from a hike I was super excited to do – the Goldbug Hot Springs Trail.
When we booked the Airbnb, the Superhosts, Pam and Lorett, were very responsive. They gave us directions and dinner recommendations since we would be arriving late in the afternoon after driving from Stanley. Arriving there was super easy and we were welcomed by the hosts who then took us on a tour through the gypsy wagon. They explained how to use the hot water in the shower, and the air conditioning, and the other amenities. We did not have any experience staying in a tiny home so that was super helpful!
Settling In
After settling in, we enjoyed the sunset by the River and my boyfriend was brave enough to swim in the cold Salmon River. The current can get pretty strong, so I decided not to swim. I enjoyed my time sitting by the water and reading a book. We then drove 5 miles to Dusty Mule, a local diner, where we had craft beer and an amazing burger! There was another restaurant option as well, that we drove to, but unfortunately was closed. The views were pretty amazing though and if you have a chance I recommend checking it out – it is called Twin Peaks Guest Ranch.
When we came back from dinner, the hosts asked us to choose what we wanted for breakfast from a list of options and what time we wanted it delivered. Not a lot of places in the road trip offered breakfast so that was definitely a plus!
After a long day, we were ready for bed and sleeping in the Gypsy Caravan was pretty comfortable and the bed is a queen size, which fit two people perfectly. In the morning, around 7AM, we had our breakfast delivered and it was very good – I wish the host could give me her muffin recipe, it was to die for!
After enjoying the sunrise and breakfast we packed our bags, said bye-bye to Pam and Lorett, and headed to Goldbug Hot Springs. That is a topic for a whole other post. Looking at the pictures below it is easy to understand why I wanted to do that hike. Staying at the Gipsy Wagon was the perfect way to be close to the Hot Springs, hike early and avoid the crowds!
Conclusion
Pat and Lorett are the most welcoming hosts, who will make you feel at home while Glamping in Idaho. Overall, I felt very safe on the property. I was happy to see their house was just a couple of meters away and that they are available via mobile phone. While you are enjoying the Gypsy Caravan, and if you are feeling adventurous, you can meet the owners’ miniature donkeys. They live on the other side of the property, in a secluded space, or swim (at your own risk!) in the Salmon River.
